My goal was to design an interactive tool that explores the sensation of contact and movement in digital space. I find the topic of sensation and digital interaction interesting because it is often overlooked when designing applications (aside from gaming) and I’m interested in exploring alternative methods of digital interaction that hale a broader spectrum of senses. I think that the degree to which particular senses are emphasized within an interfaces architecture are determinants in what kind of outcomes we see evolving from the interface. The iPhone for instance simultaneously connects people remotely and disconnects them locally due to the design of the interface. This project creates physical tension between the two participants anticipating contact while controlling digital information.
